Pros

I have been with Vets First Choice for almost three years. I thank Vets First Choice for being a company that has provided me with tremendous growth opportunities and support, both personally and professionally. Vets First Choice is a great place to work for those who are looking to continuously raise the bar in defining success.

Cons

Continue to foster an environment of transparency.

Pros

For what little they allowed me to do I got paid well. The ability to work from wherever (within reason) was also great. Decent benefits. The office in Portland is absolutely gorgeous unfortunately no one ever goes in so you don't get the full benefits.

Cons

They spent so much money, time and energy hiring VP's and above they forgot to hire people to actually do the work. A big reason the company is in a downward spiral. The department in charge of looking after the people instead who focused their time on creating damaging silos and hiring her own people the internal trust of the HR team imploded. They are people in HR with little to no experience. At Covetrus just knowing the right words to use will take you far, you don't need to show action because you can blame someone else for that. Covetrus simply doesn't care about it's employees. They're focused on growing enough revenue for their investors to sell. I brought more experience to the HR team but they never allowed me to use my skill set or experience so month after month I would sit and update spreadsheets or create job descriptions. I'm truly astounded I wasn't laid off years before I was actually laid off. The real kicker to show this company doesn't care about employees (and more specifically me) they went out of their way to deny my unemployment benefits to which I'm sure they are sitting back laughing out loud while collecting massive paychecks.

Meaningful mission and values abandoned with private acquisition

Pros

- Meaningful mission to support veterinarians, pet parents, and pets. - Many intelligent, driven, good humans. - A lot of good ideas and many of the right pieces to make it happen. - Private acquisition in 2022 brought hope for bringing the disparate pieces together.

Cons

- Before the private acquisition in 2022 it was a complete mess of siloed departments and teams with separate incentives, disparate systems and processes without any cohesive offering or messaging internally nor externally to the clients. It was confusing for internal employees and so completely confusing for veterinarians / the clients. - Private acquisition brought some hope for cohesion but quickly showed it was all about ROI for the people at the very top. - DEandI was clearly no longer a priority when 2 of the top ranking women in leadership were let go and replaced with a straight white guy that showed pictures of his underage sons drinking in his intro slides for the all hands. - Multiple rounds of layoffs to ensure private equity investors were making the money per an aggressive short term plan.
