Pros

-The people! Hands down the biggest Pro. The company attracts a certain kind of person and there is a common thread (mostly) within the company of gracious, generous, and kind people. My coworkers were truly the reason I got out of bed every day. -Perks are good. Insurance isn't bad, nice 401(k) automatic match. The monthly Crafty box is a really nice touch!

Cons

-The company doesn't walk its ambitious talk. Differing viewpoints (per the "Five Values") are actually not that welcome and if you don't go along with the prevailing thinking, you're marked as problematic. -Workloads are unmanageable. If you raise your hand for help, you're made to feel like it's a sign of weakness and that it's you who are the problem. High levels of stress and burnout are a reality at Crafty. -Toxic managers are tolerated despite complaints to upper management as well as the number of people who have quit and will continue to quit because of them. Management's inaction sends a clear message that they're not taking this seriously. -Lack of transparency and action from upper management on critical issues raised by employees. Feedback given in surveys and via other methods seems to go nowhere. Management is selective in how they respond and the thornier issues tend to get a hard pass.

Hi there. Thank you for sharing your feedback. It can be difficult to speak out, but I am grateful that you are. We encourage each and every one of our team members to feel empowered to provide feedback, whether direct, in our dedicated office hours, or indirect, within our people management software, and I take that feedback seriously. I want to let you know how much I appreciate how warmly you talk about the people at Crafty. I couldn’t agree more - our people are our greatest strength and making sure they are fulfilled and happy is a top priority. Looking ahead to 2024, we are making deeper investments in ongoing management and leadership training to ensure we are arming our people managers with the tools they need to handle issues that might arise on their teams. I am confident that this investment will result in more positive experiences for everyone at Crafty. We want to prepare our leaders with tools to do their jobs well and make sure that within our processes, the people they are managing are heard and appreciated. I also want to offer my ear to you or to anyone else who might be reading this. Please feel free to come to me (nate@craftydelivers.com). I believe in the processes we have built and continue to rebuild, but if something is not working for you, I am here. You can contact me via Slack or email, and I will do my best to find out how I can help. I also wanted to address your thoughts about feeling a lack of transparency around feedback and how we’re handling the responses we receive from employee surveys and anonymous Q&As. It’s important to us that we take the time and diligence needed to review employee surveys in depth to not only understand sentiment but also prioritize areas that require focus. We are currently working on creating new processes and systems to ensure our teams can speed up response time. So while this objective will not change, I do commit to more visibility to the wider organization in 2024. Lastly, I know there will be frustrations as we grow; it’s inevitable for any company. We want you to feel safe, empowered, and confident in your roles. I hope this response has been helpful in gaining some insight into our plans and goals for 2024, and that it reinforces that we know you are a valuable part of our team whose voice deserves to be heard. Thanks again, Nate. (nate@craftydelivers.com)

Pros

Startup potential, projects at times interesting and exciting

Cons

Leaders do not practice what they preach. Despite my attempts to fight for my employees, Crafty decided to go back on promises made and that was extremely disheartening and showed the true colors of Crafty long-term. You absolutely are not safe if you voice concern in this company. I experienced retaliation twice from several different individuals in upper management. I met with an HR consultant who recommended I should have sued but I just did not want to bother with this company anymore. The stress actually caused me real long-term medical issues and I am relieved I do not have to be in such a terrible environment anymore.

Hi there. Firstly, I’m very sorry to learn that this was your experience. Since we started Crafty way back when, we made it a priority to craft a better workplace – not just for our clients but also for our team members as well. Yours is clearly a scenario where we missed the mark, and I'm sorry for that. I appreciate your candor in this review and while it is painful to hear we failed to create an environment that felt safe, we will learn from this. There are a few themes we do not take lightly from your review: (1) Awareness – we want to make sure that we are hearing from our team. Feeling unsafe and then experiencing a retaliation based on escalating a complaint is 100 percent unacceptable. To anyone from Crafty reading this, please know that if you are in this situation, please come directly to me (nate@craftydelivers.com). This should not be happening to you in any capacity and I will take those concerns very seriously. (2) Professional Development – we have built Career Tracks into our performance management system to help individuals understand tangible steps and performance metrics to grow and accelerate in their career - we need to make sure those are leveraged consistently. We have let people down in the past before we had these career tracks in place and we are committed to not letting that happen again. (3) Performance Management – we must further embrace our usage of Lattice, our performance management platform, to help document success/challenges, share feedback (both public and private), and stay on the same page across all of our team members. (4) Management Trainings – we have been investing in leadership and people manager training company-wide, so that regardless of function, all people managers are equipped with all the necessary tools to have very clear, actionable, and supportive conversations with their direct reports. Deeper investment in this area will only continue to help us create a better employee experience for our team. (5) Feedback – it has always been important to us that we have feedback baked into our culture. While this has been a tenet of our culture for quite some time, we have recently taken steps to ensure feedback (giving and receiving) is more clearly adopted and visible across the organization. We have instituted feedback documentation through Lattice so that we can not only make sure wins are captured and celebrated but give our people the space to both share and receive opportunities to improve. We also run frequent (bi-annual and monthly) anonymous feedback surveys run by our People Team to help inform our goals and approach to being the best possible employer to our employees. Thank you again for sharing this feedback and I hope you know that even if you aren’t with us at Crafty anymore, we are always listening and working hard to improve. Your note about your time here will help us push through some of the issues you highlighted. This is how we get better. Thank you for your time and contributions to Crafty.

Hey! Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us. Since you’re a current employee, I’m excited to offer some solutions and additional context that will hopefully help. Thinking about the role of a Food & Beverage Coordinator, it’s possible this particular position might be in misalignment with what you are looking for in your career. It sounds like you enjoy working at Crafty, but being on-site at a client’s office 5-days per week is difficult and isolating. For some, this role allows them autonomy, the ability to be on their feet, not be bogged down by meetings, or tied to a computer all day. The trade-off is there is a good amount of independence and alone time. That might not work for some people. At Crafty, we invest in people, not positions so if you love our culture and our mission but are not feeling great about your daily responsibilities, I would encourage you to chat with your manager about your career path. It might even mean exploring what else is available in the Craftyverse. I am sorry to hear about experiencing frustration from clients - it can be painful from our side. Customer-facing roles come with having to build and manage relationships; however, if this is a continuous problem, we encourage you to elevate the issue to your manager or the People Team. We will always prioritize our team members’ safety, both physically and emotionally. If you are experiencing abusive behavior at work from anyone, please escalate this to the People Team right away. You mentioned that compensation is not offered when receiving a promotion, which is by no means how Crafty operates. I’d love to hear more about this if you’re comfortable reaching out, as that would be extremely unusual. You can also raise this directly with the People Team for more clarity on the specific situation you are referring to. Thank you again for your candid feedback. We are glad we have you on the team and hope that this response helped clarify things a bit. Nate (nate@craftydelivers.com)
