Pros

I truly looked forward to working in this industry and making a career with this company. Interviews went amazing, were very responsive. Coming in as the manager, I looked forward to serving my team and community and growing the business. An opportunity to change the stigma of cannabis. Retail with great operating hours Knowledgeable staff Great patients If you like retail, it’s just like any other!! Amazing learning opportunity especially for an emerging market.

Cons

I don’t want to make this personal like a lot of people. As a business, this was an absolute nightmare. When I was hired, within 2 weeks my district manager left, and a week later my asst. manager was fired. What I was being “trained “ on by the asst manager, was exactly the reason for her being let go in terms of operations. In other words, my leadership left and my support was fired...trial by fire situation. Besides 1-2 days of “classroom” training, there was no training or preparation for what I was hired to do. Throughout my first month, I had seen more turnover than any company I had ever been with. My team was absolutely amazing, but, it was obvious they were numb to the turnover they had witnessed, And so were patients. I will not even begin to discuss the situations I was put in by leadership to simply “do the job” that put my life, team and business at risk, multiple times. There is no clear direction where they wanted to go, too many jobs for too few people. At the end of the day, I was let go before my benefits kicked in. By state law, which they can do, told me i “was not a good fit”, although I had never received any write up or disciplinary action. I was not terminated by performance or any other HR issue. I received no performance improvement plan or anything. I had increased the stores average sales transaction, promoted a few team members and basically did what I was signed to do. It is a shame moreso because of the team I had built and the attitude in which everyone had obtained was from a sense of stability, and yet again they will have the 4th manager in 18 months. There is no “diversity” in leadership. I will just leave that for your speculation. Oh yea, did I say I also had my own department with the Better Business Bureau....trust me, while this review may have some personal/emotional tone, my experience, as a businessman and someone who has a 10+ year career in management, this was by far my worst employment experience ever, from communication to structure to direction to retention to operations...across the board...a mess.

Pros

Helping patients...that’s about it

Cons

It’s an awful place to work for. Employees are never appreciated. It’s more of a sweat shop than anything else and the fact that such young people are capable of keeping everything flowing quite nicely while management is always barking down everyone’s neck about how we need to be making more money, it will always be beyond me. There are many people that can barely afford this program, however employees are forced to try to up-sell to patients. Employees are forced to rush through educational courses because management wants as many new patients seen, so these patients can be another number added to the day. There is so much unnecessary work they stress everyone over. Every transaction of a new patient had to be documented to see how much money we were making off of each new patient. Employees had to track each and every time a patient went to another dispensary that wasn’t ours (for numbers sake of course). Was anything even getting done with those numbers? Was corporate even checking those numbers? No, not that I ever heard of. It was busy work for absolutely no reason what so ever when we could’ve spent more time focusing on the real reason why Curaleaf exists today....the patients. There are many faces I miss, I do miss helping people daily as well. With the stress of management, it made helping people harder each day when they aren’t compassionate or caring what so ever of the ill people walking in and out of those doors. Especially patients that have their care givers come in and have little to zero education about it, those are the people that need the most patience because they truly want to make the right decision coming there for medicine. Multiple people have left this company because of lack of well management. Patients have gotten frustrated and I’ve even spoke to patients that refuse to come back because of how rude some employees were.... I promise patients, it’s never anything personal. The amount of stress the bud tenders, admissions people, and consultants are put under are HIGH levels of stress, almost unexplainable. When it gets to the point of not wanting/caring to go to work, not caring how much you are getting paid hourly... because you live in fear of your manager or constant discomfort of your superiors...that is when there is a problem. I miss the cannabis community and I miss being such a big help to a lot of the patients that need help with learning their medicine. Doctors typically aren’t too much of a help with the program, they just qualify people and these people come to us with high hopes of us telling them everything they need to hear. It’s truly hard to be everything we need to be for patients when management doesn’t let us help. I apologize for anyone that’s had a bad experience at this dispensary. It’s most definitely a work in progress...

Pros

Competitive pay for the region.

Cons

They know nothing about cannabis and don’t seem to want to learn. Frustrating for employees trying to learn in a new industry.
