Pros

It might vary depending on the department but the controls department is not the place to be. The only good thing I can say is that scheduling is so bad that no one realizes I'm billing to projects but sitting at home. The schedules themselves are so impossible to achieve that no one cares if they succeeds or fails. If you get it done the next one is worse. If you fail, well someone gets blamed or something. Who knows, it sure doesn't matter since your bonuses are non-existent. Getting fired is no threat in this job market.

Cons

As mentioned earlier the schedules for our big customer are so messed up that you never know when you will be home or called away with a 24 hour notice. We used to be able to travel to the customer as needed but that's all gone. Now you have to get permission from the one manager here to book any travel. The only problem is that he never answers his phone. If you call him out on that he blows up and tells you how he has so many years of experience and you are just learning. That's some great coaching and management techniques. His manager is at least nice but be ready to get micromanaged. Honestly, there isn't a decent manager in this office. I hear the other offices are better but I don't have any experience with their guys. I doubt there is anything that can make up for these schedules.

Thank you for your feedback. After we read your review, our Director of Controls met with all of the team members in our Erlanger office to address your concerns about scheduling and accessibility. We takes these comments very seriously and are working on an action plan to make improvements.

Pros

Most of the people are pretty easy going. The schedules have gotten worse in recent years but everyone has been pitching in and get it done. Despite some of the growing pains everyone has really tried to keep this company going.

Cons

The previously mentioned schedules are one of the main problems. Upper management has become so out of touch with what it takes to get projects out that it has become nearly unbearable at best, impossible at worst. Couple that with a CEO that is clearly out of his league and you have a recipe for layoffs and a company in distress. Some of the the layoffs have finally happened but it will be unfortunate that more people will probably have to go before we lose this disgrace that is the CEO and much of the senior leadership. As another reviewer pointed out, this senior leadership is largely composed of an "old boys club" or some new people that are better at talking than doing.

Pros

Interesting work with challenging timeframes and budgets. Generally good people and most are seasoned and know their job. Tools tend to stay current but not pushing the edge. Benefits and salaries are generally close to industry.

Cons

No real onboarding or training strategy. Tend to try to hire you for immediate needs and throw you directly into work. Company is transitioning from mid-sized projects into larger scale heavy automation projects and is clearly struggling with the transition. Sales does not align well with engineering in terms of cost and schedule leading to delivery issues. Engineering workers then suffer the consequences. The company "does not track or recognise overtime". As an employee you are expected to put in your 40 and then some but only report 40. I really don't know how they get away with it honestly. Travel is part of the job but the travel expense policy pretty much hangs you out to dry. No per diem adjustments made based upon where you travel. Low airline and hotel caps. Very uninspiring raises and bonuses. Bring in low expectations.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us your feedback. Your feedback indicates to me that there could be some improvements here. I will roll this over to our managers so they can have this insight. Furthermore, I invite anyone with concerns on or organizational structure and travel policies to express those concerns to me, directly. They are also welcome to do so anonymously, if that’s preferred. I appreciate your comment about missed opportunities from lack of training. We implemented a Learning Management System and have increased training availability and opportunities for our employees.
