WHERE DO I START.
The only people who "enjoy" it there are people who have no aspirations in life, or those that have never experienced joy in their lives.
The thing that makes me sick to my stomach is if, and only if, you open an account you are treated well. If you don't open an account then YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG AS ALL CUSTOMERS WANT TO GET INTO DEBT, OBVIOUSLY`! Customers HATE it when I pressure them to open an account so I simply stopped doing it, ever heard of GOOD customer service Debenhams? No, apparently not. Sometimes as an incentive supervisors or managers will say to you "if you open a card for a customer you can have a 10 minute break and I'll buy you some sweets" which I think is disgusting and it tells you everything.
Management don't give a s*** about you or what you have to say. I've had several managers and they've all been a huge disappointment. They don't care about your other commitments and will have you working any hours just to suit them. But they always make sure they please their older employees as they always get the shifts they want. I was constantly put on shifts I didn't agree to, you're allowed to refuse as much overtime as you want to, but I was always made to feel bad for refusing it.
THE PAY IS DREADFUL, I wouldn't mind if all I had to do was tidy up or just help customers, BUT NO. Because my department is short staffed we all have to run around doing everything; fitting room, till, order service, tidying up after customers, answering the phone ETC ETC ETC. And I'm expected to run around for minimum wage, erm no!
They constantly ring me up asking me to do extra hours when I have stated that I only want to do my contracted hours, but they still don't take the hint. There is absolutely no respect there for their staff. I understand the managers are under pressure but surely a happy member of staff performs better than an unhappy one.
I am often told I have to clean the tops of fixtures and clean these black plinths with soap and tissue paper, which means getting on my hands and knees and scrubbing them. I have never seen a supervisor do this, or a manager. My job role is not a cleaner, it is a sales advisor. I never do this anymore as I think it's absolutely disgraceful.
We're always expected to perform above their expectations but half the time the equipment they give us doesn't work (order service goes offline or tills don't work).
Hardly any sizes of clothes are out, I get so many customers coming up to me on the till asking me to find them a particular size, but 9 times out of 10 we don't have it because it's never stocked properly. And obviously that's another thing we have to deal with, and shouldn't have to.
I am pretty certain this is one of the worst places to work in the UK. How the hell do they expect us to care about the company when they couldn't care less about us. I have a lot more to say about this stupid company but I don't want to waste anymore of my life talking about it because debenhams obviously don't read things like this. And if they do they clearly don't care.
I'm annoyed that I have probably missed something out but as you can probably tell, I am scathing.
