Thank you for your feedback about working at Elexon. I am pleased to note that we have created a good work / life balance and that you have experienced opportunities at Elexon that enhance your career and skill-set. Are still working at Elexon? If so, I would encourage you to add your thoughts to the recent staff survey to highlight any feedback you have about there being some internal conflict between teams. The staff survey is a great way to share this type of experience, and it is anonymous, so any comments will be confidential but will be of great help to us in understanding whether there are any issues that need to be explored. We acknowledge that promotion opportunities can be limited at ELEXON, probably because we are a medium size company. However, we regularly look at how we can develop staff roles so that they include a wide range of interesting tasks and that staff feel fulfilled within their current position. There is sometimes an advantage to being a medium size organisation as this, along with a relatively flat structure, can open up work experiences and opportunities which might only be achieved at certain grades within other organisations. We have also been working with staff on building our skills and training schedule, work-life balance and staff benefits so that these go some way to counterbalance the concern you have highlighted.

Thank you for your feedback about working at Elexon. Great to see that the benefits of working at Elexon are supporting work-life balance and helping with the cost-of-living pressures that many people are experiencing. We are keen to ensure that current Elexon employees get the career opportunities they need so we have introduced “Careers week” at Elexon as a way of exploring the openings that either do exist or can exist with the right support and mentoring. The challenge when recruiting is of course to ensure that the right skill sets are obtained, but if you’re still working at Elexon, I’d encourage you to speak with your manager or get in touch with HR to explore your development goals and the support available to help you progress in your career. HR can advise on potential development opportunities to help you build the skills needed for future roles. Brett Buchanan Head of Resources

Pros

I hadn't heard of ELEXON before I joined - it's not as well known as other regulators like Ofgem and National Grid - but I'm so glad I came to work at this company. The people are really friendly and there's a real culture of openness and respect. Work life balance is also really good, as are company benefits and training opportunities.

Cons

The work that ELEXON does is complex and it does take a while to get your head around it.

Pros

Excellent training programmes over the years. Good bonuses, though better for those that were there in beginning with final salary pension Fairly good work life balance Nice office Many helpful and friendly people - it's only asset. I still work with many in cooperation. Not for profit with protected bites - both it's strength and it's weakness. Security of job. In the centre of

Cons

Lack of opportunities to progress and when there are, the criteria is managed so that the desired potential internal candidate gets it. Vires not unlocked, so lack of expansion opportunities. Lack of delegation and autonomy. High turnover of staff, many left for rival companies that provide opportunities. Communication is carefully controlled. Risk adverse.

Thank you for taking the time to place a review. ELEXON is working hard to strike the right balance between the opportunities we are able to offer to staff and the restrictions we have based on the type of work we undertake. With a new Executive in place, we feel we are moving in a positive direction and key strategic changes have increased our involvement across the industry and enabled further opportunities for our staff. As the company develops we feel that our staff will continue to enjoy the positive culture, good work-life balance and associated benefits and corporate events. ELEXON does endeavour where-ever possible to support flexible working requests. Working from home opportunities have increased and the annual summer softball event in the park is already been planned.

Pros

Good work life balance Generous training budget Good benefits

Cons

Staff morale is low, and turnover is high- senior management aren't addressing issues at a line manager level. Seems to be a culture of 'if your face doesn't fit, you're out'.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We work hard at trying to make ELEXON an attractive place to work with an inclusive employment environment for all our staff. Reading your feedback it does seem that there is more we can do to reach our desired objectives but we are moving in a positive direction. We are currently running our annual employment survey from which we will be able to target areas for improving satisfaction. We are also training our managers to develop their skills in dealing with challenging conversations but also to get the best out of staff. Our turnover figures are coming down and it seems that what we are doing may be having a positive effect on our staffs working experience.
