Pros

Great benefits, 9/80 Work Schedule, Hybrid Workplace (depending on Dept.), Tuition Reimbursement, well-established Special District in Utility Sector

Cons

Too many boomers and old-timers here! Lack capacity to get in touch with current workplace trends. Long-term employees resistant to change. Depending on your department/executive management team, you have numerous road blocks in your quest for professional development/skills growth/opportunities etc. People lock down entry-level admin support positions for 30+ years! If you think you meet qualifications for an internal job opportunity, recently vacated by a 30yr employee heading into retirement, you are dead-wrong! Get this, they want "experience"....so, you're supposed to come in w/outside experience in an admin support role that would be lateral transfer opportunity lol. You may have a degree, certifications, or even stellar reviews in your current role, but without that "experience" you wont get invited to test for the internal job posting, let alone interview. The older employees heading into retirement mostly all started at a low-level positions, never got degrees, and worked their way into roles that they locked down for decades! But now they want internal candidates who are solid & motivated employees, and who have 4 year degrees & certifications, to also have experience! It's absolutely laughable at this point. Too much nepotism here, and lots of family dynasties running the joint. Although, that's beginning to phase-out....slowly. Actually had a Manager here tell me, "It's not the district's job to promote your professional development" lol! what?! But in the same week the GM holds a meeting stating the importance of "succession planning" with the onset of "silver tsunami" aka workforce approaching retirement. If you don't care about growing your career, this place is a Cush place to work. If you want to challenge yourself and come across real opportunities to develop your skill-set/knowledge-base....go elsewhere. Perhaps private-sector that's more in-touch with current trends in the workforce.

Pros

Pay Benefits People (staff, some lower level management) Safety culture

Cons

Favoritism, rule manipulation by HR Director and AGM of Ops. Lies from seniors manager to each other and staff. HR Director has personal agenda to destroy employee morale at any cost. GM is being lied to from HR Director and AGM of Ops about what is really happening. These lies are carried to the Board and public. Fully cooperative union has been forced into defensive mode on every issue. Numerous personnel reviews are being challenged due to lies in the content. If you are not part of the Water Operations select Mafia, you are a target. The AGM promotes this. Regional quality control boards are being lied to when an incident is reported (AGM Ops behind this).
