Pros

Coworkers are very intelligent with an incredible work ethic and the owners had a strong vision for the company and appeared to care truly care for their people.

Cons

Middle management/Human Resources have little concern for employee career goals and did not conduct reviews or initiate discussions about career growth, job satisfaction or development within the company. Employees are on their own to advocate for what they need and are easily forgotten if they are not proactive.

Pros

This company offers positions to very smart people directly out of school (graduate school for the account managers and medical writers and college for the program coordinators), and it shows: most of its employees have no work experience, and this is to the detriment of everyone.

Cons

Very high turnover. Naive employees are grateful to have their first job, so they work really hard, without realizing that they are being taken advantage of. "Bonuses" suck. Scientists (PhD level) are stratified as account directors (the haves) or medical writers (the have nots), with the latter given very little client exposure and opportunity for growth.

Pros

Good experience if you want to work in medical communication/med affairs, you get experience with a lot of different deliverables and clients. Client teams work well together to achieve client goals.

Cons

What you’ll hear in your interview: “We pride ourselves on having a great work/life balance!” On the job: you can easily burn out in months. What you’ll hear in the interview: “We look out for one another and try to help if things get overwhelming”. On the job: There simply aren’t enough people, and no amount of “checking in” changes that. Pandemic just makes things worse, colleagues ping on Teams every day of the week, from before 9am to well after 9pm. What you’ll hear in the interview: “Yeah we work hard, and there are some tasks like ad boards that you have to work after hours or on weekends, but that’s not the norm and you just work less the following Monday”. On the job: it’s the norm, there is no getting back those hours.
