Pros

I've been working for 31abc for almost 3 years and I have felt valued and appreciated for the duration of my time here. The staff are very friendly and available whenever you need them, they make an effort to show their appreciation in meetings and during holidays, and they do their best to accommodate the needs of the coaches. I'd never stayed at one company for longer than a year, that is until working for 31abc. Flexible Hours - You're able to choose what hours you make available for teaching by opening slots from 6pm to 10pm (Beijing Time). Ideal Class Duration - Classes run 28 minutes with 2-minute breaks between each. I've found that many students are only able to keep their focus and work their hardest for a short time, so the duration of the classes is perfect. Any longer and it would be a struggle. 2 minutes to break isn't long, but you get used to it. Amazing People - As I said, the staff are great, but so are the students and their parents. You get to form strong bonds with everyone, and it makes the job much more fulfilling.

Cons

Pay Cuts - Unfortunately, due to the pandemic that happened in 2020, there were pay cuts. 31abc did what they had to in order to save people their jobs, and I appreciate that. Many people lost their jobs, but because of the pay cut, some of us didn't. Of course, I am hoping the wage will return to its previous amount as things are on the mend now and it's not easy to get by on a lower wage. Platform Issues - The platform that we coach through at 31abc is excellent in many ways, but it has some flaws that many coaches are still waiting to be fixed. One is that the writing tool is limited and there is no way to introduce pictures from outside of the application. This can make explaining certain English words quite challenging as our resources are limited to the material in the platform. The platform often has exactly what you need, but if you like to introduce advanced vocabulary, for example, this can be a setback. Reports - Writing reports can be time-consuming, especially if several are on the same day. As far as I know, we are not paid for writing them, yet they can take upward of an hour if you have many on the same day. I have spent more than two hours after work writing reports in the past, as monthly reports are in-depth and require more detail. Luckily, reports only come around every 6 classes, but it can still be time-consuming if you have a full class schedule.

Hello Tutor in Runcorn, thanks for reviewing and recognition. We are proud of having you guys staying with our students and us. About pay, we have made our new salary system. The longer our coaches stay with us, the higher his/her tier and base salary will be. And if your tier is high enough, the actually pay is higher than before the pandemic. About the issues on teaching platform, we will feed back to our IT team. I know they may have their concerns, but we will see what we can do. For reports, actually we don't think weekly reports take that much time, but trial reports do. We believe trial reports is a good way to help enroll students for your regular class. Thanks again for your reviewing and it will definitely help us grow and improve. We really appreciate it!

Pros

When I started with this company back in 2016, I remember there being 0 reviews for this company. It was not very well known. Since then, I have had the privilege to see them grow and succeed. I truly enjoyed working for this company. The only reason I am not working for them anymore is due to the changing laws in china along with life events that have happened to me personally. This job helped me to love teaching again! It is a fun job and stress free environment. If I could, I would go back to work for them in a heartbeat! I have to give a shout out to Linda, she is amazing and always there for you. Pay raises are consistent. Work from home. You have the freedom to teach how you want. The students are mostly sweet, obedient and hard working. The staff truly cares about you. The lessons are already pre planned so you don’t have to do any preparation beforehand.

Cons

Waking very early can be hard when you are first starting out. Sometimes the children can be very mischievous. The ever changing laws in China make it difficult for everyone.

Pros

Staff books lessons for more consistent students and schedule. Supportive staff. They are very appreciative and it feels like a family. No daily feedback for students. Closed on US Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Also closed during major Chinese Holidays. The holiday schedule for the year is announced ahead of time. The students and families are wonderful! Compensation is fair and there are opportunities for pay increases. I had worked at a larger company for almost 2 years. I switched to 31abc about 8 months ago and it was the best decision I could have made. I love the smaller company, the flexibility in teaching, and feeling appreciated. There is a monthly meeting that coaches are highly encouraged to attend. The monthly meetings are a great place to get helpful advice and tips from other coaches.

Cons

Instead of daily feedback, coaches complete 2 reports during each unit. The reports are a little longer and sometimes very time consuming to complete when first starting. The more lessons you teach and get to know students, the easier they become. There is not a lot of resources and training available to new coaches. If you are brand new to teaching ESL online, it can be overwhelming. They are actively working to set up trainings and resources. It is a little difficult to connect with other coaches other than the monthly meetings.
