Pros
Good pay, bonuses were great, casual dress code, love the Cira Centre and nice to be in the overall heart of center city. Definitely a great opportunity if you want to learn a lot about web and backend systems development and get those extra notches on your resume
Cons
Has this very wannabe/poor-mans Google/Facebook/Microsoft demeanor. They try to do the open environment culture but it's horrible because all the work spaces are super cramped together so you basically have no sort of personal bubble. As a developer it's annoying because all the non-developer oriented staffing is basically next to you at the other tables and they get very loud and gossipy, which is very annoying and distracting. The company tries to act like they are this super laid back and fun environment but yet they play dictator when it comes time controlling how people are positioned/seated in the office. If you want to work from home you will get the evil eye and a passive reprimanding. As far as superficial perks go, my general rule of thumb is if a company is doing stuff like free drinks, snacks, beers, etc... it's a sign of a bad things (i.e. they are trying deceive you and lower your guard) Poor/Volatile management. It felt like every other week or so someone from either 50OnRed, or its sister companies were disappearing. Rather than help people grow into their positions it seemed management would just react and fire people immediately. As far as performance reviews go there really is no formal review process. It's basically whatever management feels like telling you at the spur of the moment. One week they'll give you your "review" and tell you you're doing a great job but a few days later if it benefits them they'll tell you the exact opposite and then just put you on the chopping block because they feel like it. The product directors, sales, and upper/mid management seemed more a like a bunch spoiled frat boys, yuppies/hipsters with serious entitlement issues. They would essentially bully and intimidate in order to get what they wanted. Clearly people with serious insecurities, which was very evident when you saw them at outings/parties where they would get drunk and become belligerent. Some of the management would get drunk to the point where they would start harassing and insulting the interns/admin-staff (especially the females). I believe one of the previous reviews said it best "it's a high school popularity contest" So if you are in bed with those in power then you will be fine but if you're not buddy buddy with the management they will find a way to throw their weight around and bully you out Overall, the company has this aroma of pretension/arrogance, which is definitely misplaced given that it's a lowly fairly unheard of company that simply makes malware/spyware. You would think from the companies attitude that they were someone like Google/Facebook/Microsoft/Apple. But it's like the title of the review "don't be fooled by all the fancy smoke and mirrors"
