Pros
I worked at ABH for five years and I really enjoyed much of my time there. I got great experience and met some wonderful people. Although there were some down sides to my employment there, overall it was a good experience. Pay was not bad - equivalent to other agencies with similar functions.
Cons
Though technically a not-for-profit, the company has a very corporate feel (that could be a positive or negative depending on your view). There is an immense disparity in pay between direct service staff and management, and some of management does not do much all day except take the occasional meeting - some times when going to management for help they were not very responsive or unavailable. Senior management appeared friendlier and more respectful towards managers than case management staff. I worked for different contracts and had varying levels of effectiveness from supervisors and managers. One point is that once a contract closes, the company does make efforts to keep people on, however some of the people who still work there and have been there for years on many contracts are completely ineffective and some are very clique-y and not very pleasant. The lack of job security was also a deterrent because contracts are not guaranteed, and there have been many rounds of layoffs after contracts end - some very large (the agency has gotten much smaller over the past 10 or so - be aware of this)
