Pros
URS is a large diversified engineering services company. The broad client base makes the company fairly stable for a provider of services. It is nice having such a big name company, with solid a financial footing, when competing for large engineering jobs. URS has a great presence across the United States, and the acquisition by AECOM should help improve the international market share.
Cons
Executive management seems more interested in mergers and acquisitions than executing world class engineering. Integrating the many different companies that have been acquired over the years has proven difficult. There are a lot of great engineers across the country but it is tough to leverage resources in other offices. This problem is getting better, slowly. It is sometimes tough to compete for smaller jobs with the inherent red tape of a large company.
