Misalignment of Role Expectations: The role of Applications Engineer (AEs) on the Energy Market team has been misleading. Instead of focusing on strategic or technical aspects, a significant portion, approximately 80%, of our time is dedicated to tasks resembling those of customer service representatives. This not only misuses our skills but also leads to a loss of potential and expertise that could be channeled more effectively elsewhere. Inadequate Training and Responsibilities: AEs are thrust into roles that require reviewing legal documents during the bid process, despite minimal legal training. This not only poses risks for the company but also places undue pressure on employees who are ill-equipped for such responsibilities. Neglect and Disregard for the AE Team: Despite being touted as the frontline for AFL and a pivotal asset for the commercial team, the AE team's pleas for resources and support have consistently fallen on deaf ears. The absence of modern tools, such as outdated computer programs, hampers efficiency and creates bottlenecks in the quoting process. Interdepartmental Resentment and Inequity: The unique burden placed upon the AE team, including exclusive responsibilities like quoting, has fostered resentment across other departments. This isolationist approach not only sows discord but also underscores the company's lack of cohesive strategy and shared responsibilities. Stagnant Leadership and Culture: The managerial landscape within the Energy Market is characterized by resistance to change and a lack of proactive measures to foster growth and improvement. Many leaders exhibit a critical and unsupportive demeanor, devoid of positive encouragement. Instead of nurturing talent, the prevailing sentiment leans towards threats and negative consequences, creating a toxic work environment. Compensation and Workload Disparity: The AE team's compensation and workload are disproportionately skewed, resulting in overworked and underpaid employees. This disparity not only diminishes morale but also jeopardizes the company's ability to attract and retain talent in a competitive market.
