Pros

-Profitable and stable company -Some good people who want to do the right thing for patients and employees -Big pharma experience for your CV -If you are in a ring fenced unit, you get the benefits of resources of big pharma with less bureaucracy than rest of the org see San Fran Oncology Unit or Allergan Aesthetics -Competitive compensation package

Cons

-No transparency, no agility and lots of insecurity in middle management -Too many unnecessary layers between employees trying to move projects along and access to the decision makers. -Too many employees who are looking for something to do so instead create unnecessary work ex same activity (eg regulatory application for drug approval) that could be demonstrably successfully completed by a fraction of the people by legacy Allergan colleagues somehow needs armies of people to get involved to minimize ‘risk’ and raise ‘quality’ and in the process push out legacy Allergan colleagues. Note - many legacy Allergan colleagues across multiple groups are being pushed out by legacy AbbVie colleagues despite the fact that many of the products came through the work and dedication of these Allergan employees over many years. -While senior management says the right things and when you get access actually make the right decisions they tolerate/support the multiple middleman management layers that are only an obstacle. (Ex Minority and female leaders are hired in at lower levels, internal promotions into a succession role but the position is pushed down in the organization when a minority or women takes it on or where legacy Allergan employees were placed in the org where men’s organizational status was maintained or improved but minorities/women were pushed down) -Lots of empire builders who lack self awareness and their disruptive behavior is tolerated despite complaints by peers as long as they continue to behave with management -Bad behavior is tolerated if you have been with the company long enough or you were hired by someone who tolerates the behavior (see point above) - Discussing with manager or HR is useless (I don’t understand the TA responses to other reviews … don’t they know what happens? … I guess I could try the anonymous hotline but really is that what it takes for these basic issues?)

Pros

Big Pharma Name Recognition: Having Allergan/AbbVie on your resume provides industry visibility.

Cons

Extreme Governance & Bureaucracy: Allergan is paralyzed by red tape. There are far too many governance layers just to get basic regulatory strategies vetted out. Flawed Compliance Infrastructure: Product approvals are heavily dependent on documentation. However, current records are completely inadequate. Management fundamentally fails to understand how these systems are interlinked. Unqualified & Absentee Leadership: The leader with department oversight completely lacks the expected knowledge and experience for this level, making her a massive liability. She is rarely in the office but knows exactly how to work the system. She aggressively pushes for unnecessary, in-person regulatory meetings solely to accumulate personal travel points rather than to mitigate actual business risks. Disastrous Transition Management: The leadership transition wreaked total havoc across the department. Negligent HR Department: HR shows zero interest in investigating why good talent is leaving the company. Alarming Job Security Signs: It is a massive red flag when a leader encourages employees to apply for roles entirely unrelated to their expertise, or receiving automated AI notifications about job openings outside your department.
