If you’re willing to navigate internal dynamics, you may find opportunities to contribute and grow. The culture feels insular - bordering on cult-like. There’s an implicit expectation that you must agree Admiral is a fantastic place to work; publicly and enthusiastically. Suggest otherwise, and you’ll quickly feel like you’ve broken an unspoken rule. There’s a clear expectation to stay “on message” which results in a carefully curated echo chamber where dissenting views quietly disappear (along with the people who raise them). The approach to external hires is equally…distinctive. A particularly odd dynamic exists between tenured employees and external hires. Despite bringing in valuable experience and specialised skills, newcomers are considered “entitled” and there’s an expectation that they must “earn their stripes”. This rite of passage seems less about capability - and more about proving you can assimilate into the existing culture. Most concerning is the approach of leadership to these issues. Rather than addressing cultural blind spots or team dysfunction directly, there’s a tendency to minimise or sidestep them altogether. Those who voice dissent risk becoming marginalised. Cultural issues and team tensions are acknowledged just enough to be paid lip service to - but not long enough to be resolved. Instead, there’s a tendency to smooth things over and move on, hoping that time alone will fix what’s clearly systemic. It’s a masterclass in strategic avoidance
