Micromanaging. Condescension. Catastrophisation. - Chemist Advanced Molecular Technologies Employee Review

Pros

You will learn how to survive being micromanaged on a daily basis. Colleagues are lovely, and trying their best, you can learn a lot from them. Unique organic synthesis work. and instrumentation.

Cons

Management is dreadful. The reviews you see here are accurate - every day is a challenge because you never know what mood the boss will be in. If it's a bad one, avoid him at all costs and pray he has meetings all day. The main lab is horrible, dark, dirty, reeks of the chemicals being stored. Workplace procedures in general are extremely dated. The lab chemical management software is only used to pin blame on people, and you will find yourself looking for products that don't exist or should have been thrown out years ago.

Pros

Interesting work with good facilities

Cons

Again all previous comments are true which result in a very sad and horrible working environment. Excessive hours without pay or reward or recognition, and this is expected. Lots of psychological mind games used against the employees.

Pros

- Interesting chemistry, sometimes. - All the staff are great, and (trauma) bond over their abusive experiences with the boss/owner. - The boss is extremely smart, and you will certainly learn things about organic chemistry.

Cons

- Zero career growth. There are two levels of people at this company, the boss/owner (Seb) at the top, and everyone else below who gets zero respect. - Expected overtime. You will work 40 hours a week expected on paper, but there are many, many more hours expected off-paper. If you don't do them, the boss will turn your life into a living hell. - Insane laboratory rules that don't follow logic and will often leave you actually in danger (for example, taking your gloves off to touch literally anything in the lab that isn't in a fume-hood, and even things in the fume-hood such as stirring plates). Basically, obsessive-compulsive disorder issues permeate the lab and will make your life hell. - Zero respect from the boss. Do you see all the other Glassdoor posts? Well, I seen them before I took the job too, and ignored them and thought "how bad could it be?". Well, I am telling you. Its that bad. Look elsewhere. There is a revolving door of employees here. Most last between 3-6 months. Your will suffer mentally here. The owner has broken many good chemists, many wind up with depression and anxiety issues. Others literally rage quit before it gets that far. Seriously, do not underestimate my words.
