Quite a few smart and innovative people, particular in product and engineering, as well as operations, that either have no choice in opportunities or low morals and happy to carry on, but talented people nevertheless, that was a pleasure to develop and build solutions with.

Quite a few very toxic (with numerous bullying reports) and in some cases inexperienced and incompetent people in leadership, which sometimes win points on the vision but fail on the execution or engage in entertaining strategies and deliverables which are in conflict with declared public company goals and regulatory obligations in the desperate pursuit of revenue and meeting the investor’s targets. Very little investment in people development strategies and welfare, with very small to non existent benefits and no regard to mental health or building a healthy culture, fostering a trusting/safe to fail/nurturing and growth environment but instead allowing toxic people to engage in unacceptable behaviours and activity and shoving things under the rug without any regard to impact on people. HR actively engages in discrimination and bullying campaigns. Internal grievances and whistleblowing are non effective controls but used by HR and senior management in their advantage as in and when convenient with no regard to employment laws and regulations.

Altery is an interesting place to work, with a commitment to innovation and collaboration. There are not numerous layers for processes and approvals, allowing the freedom to make decisions and suggest improvements quickly, which is quite beneficial. The overall experience has been positive.

It's a startup, so someone might find working independently quite challenging, but I think it depends on the person. For myself, I see it as an opportunity and adventure.
