Pros

I will always be deeply appreciative of the opportunity I had to be part of the Ambit team. The managing director, at the time, demonstrated great faith in me by taking a significant risk in hiring me despite my limited experience. All I had to offer was a strong drive to learn and a relevant educational background. I was consistently presented with challenges that pushed me beyond my comfort zone, and I received invaluable feedback that greatly enhanced my abilities in constructing deliverables, conducting market research, and synthesizing strategic insights. The colleagues I had the privilege of working with were an extraordinary group of individuals, brimming with creativity, enthusiasm, and inspiration. I found solace in our shared experiences, found motivation in our collective aspirations, and found that together we could achieve remarkable results. I have no doubt that these remarkable colleagues will continue to make a significant impact in their respective fields. One aspect that sets Ambit apart is its innovative business concept, which allows it to establish a competitive edge within the rare disease consulting sphere. Since my time at Ambit, I have embarked on my own consulting venture. I am confident that without the invaluable experience I gained during my tenure at Ambit, this would not have been possible. Undoubtedly, Ambit provided a challenging environment that demanded long hours of dedication. However, for those willing to commit their time and energy wholeheartedly, Ambit offers generous rewards and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Cons

During my time at Ambit, I observed a significant deficiency in formal training programs. Instead, training seemed to be primarily reliant on client deliverables, which left much to be desired. Furthermore, the distribution of resources was highly uneven, resulting in some individuals shouldering excessive workloads or being assigned more challenging deliverables than others. On a personal note, I had taken a pre-planned vacation for one week, providing ample notice of approximately two months. However, I was met with disapproval for requesting time off in proximity to a project's deadline, despite Ambit's supposedly generous unlimited paid time off policy, which I had scarcely utilized throughout my nearly year-long tenure. As a consequence, I ended up toiling away during my vacation, enduring grueling 9-12 hour workdays for three consecutive days, all while grappling with an utterly inept principal on a project. The burnout for some projects was totally overwhelming. This principal, who was clearly outmatched by her position, exhibited an evident lack of team management skills, guidance, and constructive feedback. Many of my colleagues shared similar sentiments about this manager, and we took the initiative to professionally voice our concerns to other members of the management team. Regrettably, we were met with dismissive responses, essentially instructing us to accept the status quo. Eventually, this manager was terminated after just a few months at Ambit. Surprisingly, her highly critical review became a significant contributing factor in my own subsequent release from the company, which was truly a surprise. It was disheartening to witness management's failure to recognize that my subpar performance was a direct result of inadequate leadership on the project, despite my repeated attempts to address the issue. Since my departure from Ambit, I've seen several of my former colleagues unceremoniously let go either on or close to their one-year anniversary with the company, without any prior notice. Each of these colleagues were exceptional people that I continue to remain in touch with. It is dismaying to think that Ambit considers hiring fresh staff as a more effective strategy than retaining and adequately training existing employees to meet the company's needs.

-Industry leaders for clients -Interesting project content -Highly educated and experienced coworkers -Could be a good workplace for consultants with experience at intense consulting companies

Cons

-Executive leadership over-promises to clients, taking on projects that are not feasible for teams -Senior leadership haphazardly assigns projects -No work/life balance (10..12...15 hour days)
