Not a great place to work - English Teacher American Language Academy Employee Review

Pros

ALA will sponsor non-EU teachers for work visas. I think they do this in part because those teachers will then have a hard time leaving, but nevertheless I am grateful they were willing. Facilities, supplies are decent.

Cons

One owner (you know which one) is a notoriously terrible man to work for: paranoid, petty, vindictive, riddled with delusions of grandeur. They pay late for no reason, insist you attend long, unpaid meetings on Sundays, make you grovel for high reviews from the students.

Pros

I worked as a full time teacher at ALA. The students were wonderful despite the fact that the upper management of the company often mistreating them.

Cons

Poor management. The company is run by two unscrupulous people who know very little about how education works, and often misrepresent their programs to both students and teachers. The language center makes millions of dollars, yet only have 6 computers in the computer labs and spend very little on resources for the center. The furniture looks like it was purchased from thrift stores. The owners are extremely parsimonious and lure in employees with attractive contracts, then change the terms a few months after the teachers arrive. They also have many questionable practices with how they treat international students as well. Teachers are treated as though they are disposable. ALA has one of the largest turnover rates in the area. During my time there, more than 4 employees left the company. If you want to develop and grow as a teacher
