Pros

Benefits are right in line with size of the company & sits in the middle of Google & mom/pop shops. No where near the best or the worst. The schedule is unbeatable for retail & unheard of. M-F & all major Holidays off (10 of them) which includes "Black Friday". PTO is 13 day years 1-5 and then go up after year 5. After year 18you will accrue 23 days PTO l. This is definitely a family balance job as a manager. As An assistant or any field position traveling is involved so if you don't want to travel or have limitations, it's not the place for you. A lot has changed over the years, "tenured managers" probably miss the "old ways" but they need to move with the times as most companies do. There are a ton of people in GA facility that are willing to help, but you have to ask, can't be afraid to speak up. Most just complain Instead of making sound suggestions to improve. Many managers do believe "corporate people " should be more hands on and in front of customers to see what a typical day is like with "slow computers/internet." The CEO is outstanding & hands on. Travels to stores & gives good feedback. The feedback should at times be given directly to managers / assistants as oppose to Regional staff to pass on. At times managers/assistants listen more to a CEO, it's a human nature. I've learned so much at this company & appreciate so many people that have helped me grow at store level and from GA facility aka "corporate."

Cons

More duties applied on everyone with not enough compensation. The return of the bonus was a great implementation but targets/budgets have raised a lot. Most companies seem to want to grow around 8% YOY (word of mouth) but Ames usually wants more than double that YOY & with times changing its very challenging. The store personnel should never become stagnant but it happens & more per hour and less bonus may be a way to motivate some. Middle sized accounts seems to be ignored or heavily rely on store managers to take care of them. Large accounts have a go to person & small to medium have the managers and there are missed opportunities there. At times hard to reach supervisor as they have many stores to cover but for the most part can get help I need from peers or others, but I'm one that's NOT afraid to speak up.
