Pros

I can't think of anything

Cons

I have been in the travel industry for years but Amtrak is nothing like any other travel business I have worked for. Everything is scripted and you are rated and graded on how carefully you follow the script and how many times you use certain words. It's awful! It's a hard sell, over the top micro managed, disingenuous, and pressured job. I am used to creating a connection with clients but Amtrak just wants the sale and there is a ton of pressure on numbers and on what you say. They review your calls or they are listening in on them as they happen. You get performance reviews weekly. The commission isn't great. And if people have a problem with the trip they booked, it is unlikely that they will get any help from Amtrak. The complaint department is small, very poorly run, and people wait on the phone for hours to be able to talk to someone who is basically going to say that they can't help fix the problem. It's all incredibly expensive (overpriced) as well. Stay away from Amtrak as an employee and as a customer. It's a shame because the trip itineraries are great but overall it's just not worth it.

Pros

Great friends and Travel with plenty to see

Cons

The culture is horrible it’s a very demeaning please. They will fire you for anything. Harassment amongst employees and by management to their employees Is extremely high. I have a MBA degree and I still can not move above the customer service level. I’m a union member and you have to pay union dues to work a non management position. The union Reps work for Amtrak to so there is a conflict of interest. The union is TCU in which they defend the company 100x harder than they do their members. TCU is not organized very well. The pay is fairly well but after union dues in medical and taxes are withdrawn your net income makes it look like you are making at least 15 to 17 an hr. As far as Work culture at Amtrak it is fueled by many rumors and those rumors are more affluent then your resume .
