Pros

The mission of the organization is compelling and the employees are committed. You are able to help animals find new homes.

Cons

Management does not treat employees well. They are always letting people go and always have lots of openings. They don't seem to care about the employees.

Pros

Great learning experience right out of veterinary school. Helped in learning more about spectrum of care and shelter medicine that I may not have learned in school. Lots of surgery experience. Great mentorship while also having the opportunity to learn and grow as a new doctor. No weekends or on call shifts for interns. Many well-established SOPs/protocols aid in consistency among treatment for animals with commonly seen diseases.

Cons

Salary was lower than I would be making at a full-time position elsewhere, but compared to other internships, the salary was very nice!

Pros

The people are excellent everyone on the floor is passionate about animal care and it shows, most every one is friendly and the care they provide is top notch both with helping animals that are owned and shelter animals

Cons

Burn out, under appreciated/compensated staff, most senior leadership has zero animal welfare experience, the prioritize length of employment over quality and experience of newer staff, call ins the staff members call in often and there are no real repercussions so they continue to do bare minimum for years while in turn burning out the reliable staff members
