Pros
Student submissions take place entirely through an online portal, which makes it convenient to provide students with feedback. Remote work is good for current university students and recent graduates.
Cons
Workload is entirely concentrated over a 3 month period starting from October until December. Do not expect to have any semblance of a steady stream of income otherwise. You will be told that work is guaranteed at a 15 hour/week workload over the first half of the year, but this is undeniably false. You will simply not receive any correspondence until the end of the following year when the admission season begins once again. All throughout the application season, I felt extremely uncomfortable with expectations of my editing. Oftentimes, I was encouraged to use heavy direct editing where I would end up writing lengthy paragraphs for students with overt approval from the upper management. Although I raised these concerns, I was told that students pay a great deal of money for our services and expect that the finished product is near perfect, regardless of whether or not it is the students’ own words. This company does not seem to be concerned with student learning or education whatsoever.
