Work hard and long hours. Opportunity for advancement is rare, unless they are in a pickle because of high turnover. Use you when they need you, but keep their options open. You grow the company and sales, but it’s not reflected in your compensation. Often they blame it on the ‘performance of the company’ being lower, even though you helped grow your venue from the previous year. Many times upper management gets their bonuses while they are lowering or eliminating the bonuses or annual ‘raises’ of the mid-level employees.
