Pros
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to start my career at Arup, mainly because of the positive organizational culture I encountered. I felt that I was given a great deal of autonomy and was well supported by my supervisor and the rest of my team. While I acknowledge that Arup is a huge company and my experience does not apply for every office or even every team, I feel that I was very fortunate in that I did not encounter any difficult or toxic personalities. What I think makes Arup special is that many of its employees genuinely care about their work and how it impacts the world at large.
Cons
Work could become pretty hectic, especially around deadlines - however, this issue is very common in this industry and by no means exclusive to Arup. Additionally, I have the following comment, which is more about the global leadership than my regional leadership. In the past year or so, I have sensed a shift in the broader Arup culture coming from the top, and I’m not sure that things have entirely changed for the better. I would strongly encourage management to be as open, honest, and transparent as possible with employees - having this kind of open communication was the biggest part of what I personally enjoyed most about working here.
