Potential, but the poor morale and overall corporate culture is killing them! Needs a management overhaul. - Administrator Ascend Media Employee Review

Pros

The benefits package isn't ALL bad and is actually pretty comparable to what most companies offer. They used to pride themselves on offering team building and recognition activities for their employees, but that bottomed out once the layoffs began, divisions were being sold off, and department functions started shifting. So, there might still be a potential for that to change for the better one day.

Cons

The morale and corporate culture are, by far, the downsides of working for this company. Among other things, as an employee you might experience FAVORITISM, an inappropriate reporting structure (people reporting to friends or others they have a relationship with outside of the company), a true lack of appreciation for employee contributions, poor communications between staff, a top [management] heavy structure, inconsistent salaries for similar positions and salaries not commensurate with experience/skills, little room for advancement and a company that seems to lack a strong sense of direction with regards to management and employee retention efforts. Turnover rate is VERY high as a result of unhappy employees and frequent layoffs.

Pros

Unlimited vacation. You don't have to accrue it. Take as much time off as your schedule allows. Also located in Overland Park near Leawood, so there are tons of restaurants and shopping around. Coworkers are awesome and all very helpful.

Cons

Very short-staffed but all employees take on huge workloads. They implemented a company-wide pay cut two years ago in order to not have to lay anymore people off, then continued to do layoffs anyway. High turn-over. No long-term growth potential. Communication is lacking. Benefits are ok, but the company healthcare plan is expensive, and they've stopped matching 401(k)s and giving end-of-the-year cost-of-living raises. Because of that, they've also gotten rid of yearly reviews, so employees never really know how they're doing. Employee morale is low, and it seems senior management has given up on trying to improve that. The company used to hold fun summer and holiday events. Not anymore.
