Pros

Mission Oriented, will take care of those who would be turned away by for-profit hospitals Working hard to have the most current equipment and services Take good care of their nurses and provide a lot of educational opportunities Expanding into communities to make care quick with minor emergency clinics Competitive salaries, especially for hard to find specialty providers New teaching hospital opening this year will be and incredible addition

Cons

If you are in a position where you provide patient care and go home, or for the most part don't have to worry about management type issues, this is a great place to work with competitive salaries and benefits. As a manager/director, you will definitely have more challenges. Since Ascension has taken a more active role in the day-to-day operations, its been difficult on many levels to get the job done. Often managers can only do so much because their hands are tied to the new Ascension way, which leaves them and their staff frustrated. So much money has been invested things that really don't matter, such as the multi-million Humancare advertising. A lot of money spent has been wasteful or executed very poorly. Too bad those funds are reinvested in employees or facilities. Many departments are being contracted out, which creates an us/them mentality. This is new, never been like this before. It's always felt like one big family until now. Several unexpected lay-offs have created uneasiness among the staff. Not direct care staff, more of the support staff. Lots of good ole boy deals and promotions.
