Pros
A lot of paid time off, I think now you start out with 3 weeks. If you need time off you're going to get it for the most part. Competitive benefits, guaranteed your 40 hours all year long. They buy all your clothes, boots, and PPE which is a pretty big deal. Also the VPP (annual bonus) is nice.
Cons
The good ole boy system is alive and well. If you're not part of the group and you're not willing to brown nose, you might as well be ready for the guys who have your career advancement in their hands to sweep you under the rug. It's very obvious when you're not well liked by your superiors. Huge lack of training opportunities. The other... Dare I say it... Union companies are light years beyond in terms of amounts of training and opportunities for learning in your field. I think there are two or three classes for construction... That being said, they pay about half what Union companies pay their skilled labor employees.
