Pros
No two days are the same Deal with a huge variety of people Travel around Auckland Leave easy to get Good immediate management. Good training. Good colleagues.
Cons
Legislation is toothless meaning you are security theater and little else. Upper management will hang you and your immediate supervisor out to dry for the slightest mistake and micromanage like crazy. You will work with an external contractor that is constantly denigrated and demonized by management, and if you treat them like colleagues it will make you a target. Nepotism runs rampant, little chance of for promotion. Dealing with endless crims, drug abusers, people with weapons with very little self defence training, unarmed. Only option is to call the police or push the radio emergency button. Meanwhile you are getting the tar smacked out of you for doing your job or watching someone walk off scot free because they threatened you. Bad equipment that is extremely difficult to get replacements for. Low pay considering the danger you are in. Quotas that exist but you aren't told about for issuing tickets. HR will make you sit through a values seminar with everyone else, but it totally meaningless as company doesn't live by those values. Office based staff view you as an idiot and you are treated as a second class citizen. Even though you bring in millions of dollars to the company. Hopelessly understaffed. Backup can be an hour away.
