Pros

You can have life-changing experiences with amazing kids and families and be there to witness milestones in their development. I absolutely loved some of the kids/families I worked with. The hours were flexible and this job is great if you are a student, as many clients are only available during the evenings. It was usually easy to get a shift covered if needed. Some of the supervisors I worked with were fantastic. They would reply right away if I had a question while in-session, and were generally supportive, encouraging and inspiring. The management did recognize productivity and entered employees who exceeded productivity requirements into a monthly bonus raffle. The new Eureka office is WAY better than the old one and much more inviting for kids, employees and families alike.

Cons

You risk being separated from a family/client you enjoy working with at any time. Management may assign you to a different family/client with little notice. In-field training was minimal. There were many hours of online/in-office training, but only about 5 hours of initial training with clients. You are sort of just thrown in to the job. If you don't have experience working with children or knowledge of ABA principles, it can be very overwhelming. There were times where my appointments were changed or canceled and management failed to contact me about it. It takes a long time for upper management to get back to you regarding schedule changes or time off, and you rely a lot on your supervisor to get things done. You really feel "on your own" in this job and very disconnected from management. In some ways this was positive, but it could be frustrating when you need support or have questions. Besides the few others who also worked with my clients I had virtually no contact with anyone in the company.

Thank you for this - and for the genuine advice you left for management. Hearing directly from RBTs is something we deeply value, and the fact that you felt those voices weren't reaching the right people is feedback we take to heart. Amazing clients and growth opportunities are things we work hard to protect, and we know that means getting the environment and leadership around them right too. Communication and stability are areas we're actively investing in, and your perspective helps shape that work. Thank you for everything you gave to your clients.
