Pros
Compensation and Benefits: The benefits are comprehensive and affordable. All major categories are covered, and co-pays are reasonable. My salary is extremely competitive for the work I do. Additionally, Avaya allows virtual office work on a regular or permanent basis, which greatly enhances my work-life balance and allows me to be as productive as possible. Within my work group, my team mates are supportive and hard working. My immediate coach is an excellent communicator, and provides timely, pertinent feedback on a regular basis. He leads the team well in terms of balancing the needs of the business with the needs of the individuals on the team.
Cons
Since the company went private a year ago, there have been numerous "down sizing" events, resulting in some really good and competent individuals losing their jobs. While I understand the necessity of ensuring we don't spend more than we earn, the specter of constant lay offs makes working at this company stressful, especially when the people being let go are competent and worth keeping. Additionally, it appears that our growth requirements are out of touch with the market. With the current economy, a growth goal of 10% seems a bit excessive for an enterprise telecommunications company. A more modest goal would be realistic and attainable.
