Pros
The only good thing about BCLDB is that it is a provincial government employer.
Cons
I have personally witnessed bullying, harassment and nepotism. The only hope for the unionized employees of BCLDB is for the Ministry of Attorney General to conduct an audit/review of their practices and actually talk to the unionized employees. There is so much nepotism and blatant abuse of power. There are so many employees that previously worked for Best Buy and they are all in senior management positions and know one another. They also hire non-residents of Canada into permanent positions - surely you must be able to find Canadian citizens qualified for these positions - if not, why not promote from within? Is it because you don't have a succession plan for people who aren't your friends or relatives? Then you find out that they were hired because they know someone who has influence over recruiter and the Hiring Manager/Director. There needs to be an overhaul of this organization because they are so good at covering up employee complaints and have done so for decades. One example is a management employee that has had so many complaints over a span of eight years for bullying, harassment, misogynistic attitudes and they just keep moving him around from department to department. There are so many contractors that continue to be used by BCLDB instead of hiring permanent employees. The Auditor General recently reported that 73% of the contract files that were audited didn't have enough documentation to show that the LDB was impartial and non-preferential when it awarded the contract. The BCLDB is not prudent in its practices to ensure profitability. They are prepared to continue to lose money every month because of questionable practices - especially with the non-medical cannabis division. The one and only executive that cared about the workplace and the people has moved on to a private company. David Eby - please have your Ministry audit the unfair and unethical practices of this organization!
