Pros

The only appealing thing about this company is that they allow you to stay home.

Cons

They’re completely unwilling to work with their contractors and their software/app “training” resources are literally just links to the app’s website. They rely solely on other contractors to help out the newer contractors and sit back and collect on the contractors work every month. Their matching process is also a joke and if the match doesn’t work out, they put 100% of the blame on the contractor. I was told in my interview to actually hide an important piece of information from the client and ended up being fired because of it. Not because of my abilities as an admin. I have over a decade worth of experience. It was simply because I didn’t own a piece of machinery that I was told during my interview wasn’t important and not to mention it to the client. They use their contractors, hire dozens at a time, only have around 40 tiny jobs for everyone to fight over, and if they make a bad match, they’ll just toss you aside because they view VA’s as replaceable commodities. It’s a scam company that hides behind God and Christianity to make money for themselves. Shameful.

Relationships are very important to us here at BELAY, and along with that comes the satisfaction of both the client and the contractor. We work really hard to listen to concerns from both the client and the contractor, and sometimes, it's just not the right fit. It's unfortunate that you didn't have the best experience even though our team works very hard to thoughtfully match each client and contractor. We do not ask contractors to "hide" anything from their clients, rather, we encourage transparency and honesty in order to build trust. We promote community over competition and believe there's a client out there for everyone, and we work hard to find those matches. Additionally, we provide many layers of support to our contractors including our Client Success Consultants, the Contractor Services Team, our BELAY Contractor Facebook page, and countless online resources via our private contractor portal. It is up to the contractor as to whether or not she will utilize these opportunities. Sometimes BELAY is not the right fit for a contractor, and that's okay. We wish you the best moving forward.

Pros

Somewhat Flexible Work from Home

Cons

Low Pay Clients pay Belay $50-$60/hr for Virtual Assistant but they don't know that Belay is only paying the VA $20/hr so they expect $60 attention. High expectations and desired attention for very low pay. VA's are in contract with Belay. So if one of their engagements want them to work for them to work for them full time outside of Belay they have to buy out the VA'a contract with Belay that could be up to $20k. If the engagement can't afford to do that they have to wait 2 years after their contract and after the VA's contract ends with Belay.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for partnering with BELAY. We’re glad to hear that the opportunity to work remotely was a positive part of your journey, as flexibility and access to meaningful work are foundational to our model. We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding compensation. Client needs and scope of work vary widely, and those factors directly influence role expectations across engagements. BELAY’s role is to thoughtfully match contractors with clients whose needs, complexity, and investment align with the contractor’s experience and preferences, while also providing support beyond placement alone. Our model is designed to reduce many of the challenges independent contractors face by handling client acquisition, vetting, matching, contracts, invoicing, and collections, allowing contractors to focus on delivering excellent work rather than managing backend logistics. That said, we recognize that compensation expectations evolve and that market conditions continue to change. We regularly review the pay rate of our contractors to ensure it reflects both client demand and the value our contractors bring. Contractors are also encouraged to bring any concerns regarding their pay rate directly to their BELAY Talent Specialist. We’re grateful for your feedback and for your partnership with BELAY. Input like this helps inform ongoing improvements as we work to create sustainable, mutually beneficial partnerships for both contractors and clients. Warmly, The BELAY Team
