Personal experience (everyone may differ): 1. Workplace gaslighting 2. Subtle forms of bullying 3. Vague instructions and unclear guidelines from editors 4. Constant anxiety and burnout 5. Image and perception are valued more than actual merit 6. Disorganised HR practices 7. Seniority overrides competence, even when age or experience suggests otherwise. You are a nobody until you become a senior or an editor 8. Being independent is perceived as a red flag 9. Older generations perceive the use of AI as laziness rather than efficiency 10. Established house-style writings, but remains highly subjective from ALL editors' lens, ultimately suppressing a reporter’s craft 11. “Learning process” expectations for junior reporter by making mistakes, instead of providing proper guidance and mentorship. When the writing and sources are accurate, there is little to no appreciation. However, a minor mistake is often blown out of proportion and treated as a major issue.

Interning 10 months here was my best decision, seniors were very helpful, all things were taught carefully, seniors and higher-ups gave a lot of guidance. Overall a good startup place to gain experience as much as you can and to build a career more in the journalism field. Don't expect a high allowance, as you're just an intern here (RM500/month). Work-life balance is good also; youre fixed to 9 hours of working, including 1 hour of break
