Awful Place to Work (Petroleum in Houston) - Systems Analyst BHP Employee Review

Pros

BHP Billiton offers a good benefit package and fair to good bonus program. When I was there (2012) the befits were: 8.5% of salary paid to retirement fund; 6% to 401k; $5000 in matching stock, and a bonus program that's pegged to your years and rank, along with company performance; I think my range was 15%-25%, depending on how well the company did. They also have a nice cafeteria with subsidized lunch.

Cons

Awful work environment. No personal responsibility, anywhere. Expect a day mostly full of meeting after meeting, most of which are pointless. Armies of contractors that do very little. The only thing that arrives in a timely manner from them is their bill. The company is more concerned about the way things are done than actually doing anything. Over analysis of everything. Slow to react, decide, commit.

Pros

Some good co-workers and good challenges

Cons

Leadership in the Tucson office is highly political and unprofessional. Feedback is not given directly. Local leadership is more interested in Linkedin posting and image, rather than anything of substance.
