Pros

Amazing bonus structure for getting name mentions in reviews and being a good employee, not too much micromanagement, great coworkers, management tries to make the schedule work the best for everyone as much as possible with the labor hours they are allocated, Plenty of ways to be recognized and appreciated.

Cons

The company is very reactive and not proactive when it comes to maintenance, training, and communication. It matters a whole lot when something goes wrong, but no one seems to care much when there isn’t a crisis. Even star employees will have their hours cut if labor is too high, it does not matter how hard you work or how good you are, you are just out of luck if they decide it, and that includes supervisor positions as well. This is somewhat offset by the bonus program, but you can lose enough hours to where it is a lot harder to stay on the bonus program. Manager and other departmental support is sometimes only given when it’s not really needed, and lacking when it is needed. I have not seen any promotions from within to middle or upper management in my time yet, hopefully that doesn’t mean it’s not possible. Management has placed blame for bad reviews due to bad hotel condition and renovations on the department that has the highest scores by far, which is front desk and service staff, which hurts morale of the team along with a lot of pessimism in general instead if actionable policy adjustments or procedures to improve things. Moving backwards in communication technology due to cost of programs and services being too high during renovations Not very many SOP’s to keep staff on the same page. When I was new, everyone did things differently, and I was often trained on how to do things wrong, and given a bad example to follow. If I wasn’t experienced already I would have been in a bad spot and learned the wrong things. Managers are overworked to save labor even though there are plenty of employees who need the hours My job and hours never feel secure, no matter how many compliments, awards, or bonuses I get

Pros

They recognize my contributions to the team and utilize my hard work in order to help me grow into the industry rather than insisting I get comfortable where I am. Positions and promotions are given based on merit and standard of work rather than tenure and personal relationship. That's not to say that the BMI family isn't close to each other. I love working for BMI.

Cons

I wish they would be a little more open-minded about new concepts and innovations. Opportunities to revolutionize the hotel industry can get squashed a little too fast sometimes, it seems. But I also have a lot to learn about how the inner cogs turn.
