Avoid the nightmare of a depression. - Quality Assurance Functionality Tester Babel Media Employee Review

Pros

There's actually not that many reasons. Sure you get to test games that aren't out yet, but keep in mind they are just not finished so not as much fun as you might expect.

Cons

The atmosphere of teamwork is non-existent, the offices are always a mess and most of the equipment is defective. It is ridiculous how this company can get to test "triple A" games for major brand companies like Lucasarts, Konami and EA while skipping so many bugs blaming it on "the client". While it is possible to live with their security procedures, they are ridiculous and so easy to find a work around. And the worst is that when you speak to your boss in order to try and help make things better, you get shut down. it is just that sad.

Pros

Some testing can be fun if you're lucky enough to land on a project in line with your tastes, but much of the work is monotonous and repetitive (just the nature of the job somewhat-not the employer). Free coffee on evening shifts and Fridays. Many good, driven, and talented people (though sadly often exploited and not used to their full potential. Still, lots of good folks, both in contract pool (at least 80% of employees, depending on season) and in senior testing/lead and management roles. Great IT department.

Cons

It's a digital assembly line. After some minimum requirements, not difficult work, which sadly leads to a lot of seat-filling, which is not only bad for the clients and their customers, but also can result in poor job satisfaction. Complaints about labour standards are often met with buck-passing, placating, and then indifference. Poor hygiene standards, only a few bathrooms for hundreds of employees a day, which are also open to other offices in building...often no soap in washrooms, close quarters working environment. Inadequate breaks. No benefits like health or dental of any kind for contract employees. Cutting of hours to avoid OT pay while simultaneously asking employees to work overtime shifts without notice. 40 hour per week Availability without any guaranteed hours.
