Pros

Great benefits and work life balance

Cons

Low base pay, toxic management, leadership by proxy and big silos with exclusionary behavior among colleagues. DSO - organization restructure created a hostile working environment, Leadership only makes decisions based on relationships and not at all on actual qualifications! 90% of the job became toxic office politics. Little to no opportunities to move up or even laterally. The data space is severely lacking expertise in leadership, allowing anyone to do pretty much anything and call it "data engineering" or "data architecture". Zero standards, governance or any data industry standard principles are applied to any work, because leadership has no idea what those are or how their teams would technically execute anything. Severe tack of senior data engineers - actually it is zero! Duplicate work being performed by multiple teams, no code reviews or even any form of review of published work. Mickey mouse "pipelines" built on excel sheets, and datasets created with zero knowledge of "data modeling".

Pros

Bayer sounds great - "health for all, hunger for none". and "dynamic shared ownership". There are some truly amazing people working at Bayer.

Cons

But it's "health for all, hunger for none" and "dynamic shared ownership" are bogus. So many people who embraced DSO were let go for voicing their opinions. The toxic leaders made the decisions, and the organization was not truly ready for Bill Anderson's call to action. It's profits first, not people. I believed - but it saddens me to write that I was wrong.
