Pros
The frontline of helpline advisors do an amazing job considering the kinds of calls they can take each day Working in the specialist support teams was very rewarding, building rapport with service users and supporting them to make progress The organisation has a clear vision of something amazing and does a lot for people who are affected by an eating disorder, especially over the pandemic and as NHS waitlists expanded
Cons
Incredibly poor understanding of staff wellbeing support, often recruiting outside organisations to provide well-being workshops containing advice that staff would not be supported to implement in day to day work by the actual organisation Clear nepotism going on in the structure of the organisation, with senior staff members using their titles to make work life difficult for helpline advisors at times Absolutely would not recommend working here if you have any kind of disability or requirement for adjustments - despite this being a legal right, managers do not and will not support with this in a meaningful way and have been known to threaten employees who attempt to question the legality of this ableism Many staff members shared their struggles with burnout and high stress , which on one occasion resulted in a helpline meeting where managers essentially told off advisors for discussing their concerns among eachother Dismissive of staff suggestions of being more publicly supportive of LGBTQ+ / pride month despite the LGBTQ+ community presenting as a high risk group for developing an eating disorder
