Thanks for sharing your experience – we truly appreciate it! Our Publishers are independent contractors, not traditional employees, which is why the role is commission-based and does not include benefits like a 401(k). Our sales opportunity is designed for flexibility, autonomy, and the ability to build a business with uncapped earning potential.

Pros

Everyone - from publishers to designers and corporate office staff - is helpful and eager to see the whole team succeed. Other content coordinators are wonderful about sharing information that would be relevant to magazines outside of their area. Quarterly webinars also keep us abreast of what's new.

Cons

Some things within the software can occasionally be clunky; but IT listens to suggestions and always works to make improvements.

Cons

Launching a brand-new magazine requires a lot of upfront time and hustle Financial pressure in the beginning, while building relationships and sponsors Steep learning curve when managing sales, production, and community outreach You wear many hats as a publisher — sales, marketing, networking, and leadership Requires thick skin and persistence, especially in the early stages You truly have to embrace the entrepreneurial mindset
