Pros

I had been trained in almost everything regarding the winery, and they are pretty willing to train you in something new if you press for it. The company offers some wonderful perks, and it's truly a beautiful place of work. I worked at the winery, where almost every coworker feels like a family. The best people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. I can't speak for other departments, but the winery was excellent with schedule flexibility and I couldn't have imagined a better part-time job through college. Overall, the manager/supervisor/underling relationship was pretty decent as well. The paid once-a-month wine meetings were a blast.

Cons

The expectations and workload of everyone are pretty heavy given the level of pay. It is EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY hard to move up or even get recognized given the 100+ very capable, educated, awesome staff. They pay 9 an hour, and wonder why turnovers are enormous given you are on your feet practically yelling at the top of your lungs (due to the volume level of the room) for 8 hours a day, while also having no room to break for a bathroom if you were to need it without being dismissed. That sounds minor, but when it gets crazy during weekends or holidays (especially Nov-Dec), forget it. Sometimes supervisors spend too much time in the office rather than helping when we were short staffed. I wouldn't wish this job on anyone under 30. You don't get paid holiday pay, which is especially insulting given the inherent expectation of working holidays. Granted, much of this is of the fault of upper level management, who appear to be clueless as to the struggles of the winery, and only to pile more and more on with a new hotel being built. They have the money, they just don't care. They will always let WAY too many people on to the Estate during Christmas at Biltmore at the expense of the employees AND guests. It's all about the money and they don't care.Com
