Pros

Work from home, that's about it.

Cons

It's disheartening to see how some people seem to justify toxic behavior by citing the "startup environment," as if that allows for poor treatment of others. I've experienced intense micromanagement unlike anything I've seen before. Some employees act like managers even when they aren't, and the actual management can be passive-aggressive pretty often. Complaints about bad behavior often go ignored by HR. There are many meetings that seem excessive and unproductive, and there appears to be an encouragement for employees to be harsh with each other in the name of "company success." It's disappointing to see people compromise their values in this way (if they have any). Their reputation will suffer, and they will struggle to find employees in the future... Good luck with that.

Pros

- Remote - Money - Some exceptionally talented and dedicated people, though the vast majority have since moved on.

Cons

- Regular guilt-tripping and emotional manipulation into excessive hours, with weekend work and late-night check-ins treated as normal. - Employee wellbeing, mental health, and basic respect are disregarded - staff are viewed as resources that can be made to work 24/7 if the price is right. - Micromanagement and volatile behavior from leadership are common, alongside a lack of professionalism or respect. This is a tiny company, and it is felt across every team.

Pros

- Competitive salary. - Modern tech stack. - Accepting of short-notice leave. - Remote-native work environment.

Cons

- There will be a clause in the contract that says they can ask for "reasonable" overtime. Their definition of reasonable is unlikely to align with yours. - High turnover. - Rapidly dwindling VC money. - Expect to be openly humiliated in a way that maintains plausible deniability. - It took half a day and two whiteboards to explain what the company does to the employees who had allegedly been the ones doing it.
