Pros

My internship at Bluehouse Group was an awesome experience. The team here is made up of skillful and creative thinkers who are a lot of fun to work with. The projects I worked on were interesting, high-quality, and often community-oriented, and I learned a lot while working on them under the mentorship of the team. I started this internship with little experience in web development and none in the industry, and I've come out of it feeling very prepared to work as a software developer full-time.

Cons

Not necessarily a con, but my experience was largely self-directed. I often had only weekly check-ins with the team and occasional one-on-ones with other devs on a project. This is a great opportunity to build skills in self-learning, task prioritization, and communication, which I enjoyed, but you have to be up for it.

Pros

Bluehouse Group gave me the opportunity to work on a live web application, as well as contribute to several other projects. While interning here, I acquired some real-world programming skills. I now have a working knowledge of JavaScript and several major frameworks for front-end web development, but more importantly, I know how to teach myself new languages and frameworks. To those students with a mostly academic programming background, or anyone who wants to dive in and learn practical programming skills quickly, I cannot recommend this internship enough. The team is incredibly helpful, kind, and knowledgeable.

Cons

The internship was often fairly self-directed. While I was sometimes fairly busy, several of my weeks weren't packed with work, and I probably could have handled more. Additionally, while a few of BHG team regularly offered their help, I found myself having to learn a lot on my own. This worked for me, but might make the internship environment difficult for those in need of more step-by-step instruction.
