Pros

Bluetel offers some excellent benefits and has a relaxed work atmosphere. The company uses the agile methodology and its office is in a great location.

Cons

Bluetel has a somewhat toxic work culture that only seems to value loyalty. This has resulted in a sycophantic leadership team. Criticism or negativity of any kind was highly discouraged. The founders themselves would control and manage every aspect of the business. There is no sales department, no account managers, no designers, no admin staff, etc. The culture is obsessed with keeping high coding standards but would often only focus on simple specific things like variable names and comments, etc. and would ignore more general fundamental problems related to architecture and tech stack. My team was overly reliant on eZ Platform, an unpopular CMS system, which is quickly losing relevance. There is an unusual bonus scheme which results in developers earning a higher rate when working on specific tickets. This caused entire teams to spend extra time working on these tickets while ignoring other aspects of work like basic admin. The bonus would also be used as a motivational tool with threats of losing the bonus if certain conditions weren’t met.

Pros

Bluetel is a fantastic place to work. It has a flat structure with two founders who were still in the office daily (before lockdown!) and interacted with everyone as if they were regular employees which I found really refreshing. They were very helpful and always resolved any issues I had. Founders aside, the company is split into different dev teams each working on different client projects led by a team leader and a group of devs. And that’s it, no HR no other departments. This flat structure creates an environment where Bluetel can focus on delivering for their clients and results in an ego less environment. Real responsibility is given to you here if you want to push yourself. I had a supportive team leader who allowed me to lead certain projects and as a result my soft skills highly improved. I was lucky to work on some fantastic projects and work with some great people. I would highly recommend the role to anyone.

Cons

With it being a software agency, the nature of work is highly dependent on the clients needs.
