Pros

Conviniently located off the Long Island Expressway. The jokes made when the CEO leaves the office are hilarious.

Cons

Working for Bouchard Transportation is very like being in North Korea. You're stuck in an unfortunate situation but instead of waiting around to be executed for the slightest infraction, you just get fired over the phone. This isn't the type of job you should take if you have a family and value job security. Generally you're just one or two of Mortys child-like temper tantrums (much emphasis on child-like) away from getting fired. In fact, you're probably better off canvassing local neighborhoods selling knives door to door if that's your second option. When I applied I was warned about the never ending negative reviews of this company. I was free to take the other options provided but it would be a slight pay cut. I assumed that these reviews were simply all disgruntled employees but I was completely wrong. Everyone is a disgruntled employee. Everyday at the office felt like my grandmothers funeral, and that's just the start. There is no real fostering environment of learning and growing of your skills as I had in all my previous jobs. Looking back, I should have taken the other options instead of wasting my time here. Just about every employee I did work with happened to be very qualified people which was unfortunate because it is such a shame seeing such talent squandered under someone with poor management experience in operating a business. Management were also great people, but their talents were also squandered working under a totalitarian like Bouchard. Any genuine effort to improve the structure of day to day operations fell on deaf ears since the CEO is too stubborn to heed the advice of those he considers beneath him because of his overinflated sense of self importance. Leaders who don't listen will eventually be surrounded by those who have nothing to say. Another thing you will see regularly is how the CEO holds petty grudges on those whom he feels has wronged him and genuinely seems to enjoy inflicting emotional pain when tormenting his employees. I remember how Mr. Bouchard would yell and scream at this one older woman until she would cry. This was a regular thing for a month or so until she eventually got fired. It was heart wrenching not to be in the position to address this heinous act. Now I understand why there is no HR Department. When you get hired, things go sort of go well for you for the first month or so. Then he fires someone in your department and you find yourself working 10-12 hour days and weekends to pick up the slack. Normally at any job, you're awarded additional compensation for this but not a Bouchard. You'll still be screamed at and every move you make will be scrutinized until he decides to fire you, or harrass someone else if they make a mistake. It's also not uncommon for Morty Boy to contradict himself under the same breath. Standard Operating Procdures for various departments aren't written down and immortalized under paper for you to confirm and review. No. They are made up on the spot probably depending on what the CEO had for breakfast, and how many people he feels like firing that week. Just pray he doesn't go drinking for lunch because that's when the mass firings begin. Working here has its strange quirks as well. You need to sign in and out for bathroom breaks. (He also checks the logs to make sure you're not going to often. Being seen with your phone in hand will get you fired. Being 1 minute late will get you fired (he checks the logs regularly). It's unlike anything ive seen before. When you're in the hallway don't look into his office, you'll get fired for that too. Your co-worker messed up? You're probably going to get fired for not realising their mistake either. Generally speaking, if you get rid of the very few people who somehow managed to make it for more than 5 years in the Melville office, you're looking at under 1 year of work experience evenly distributed in the company. It's difficult to rely on others for advice if the person next to you only has 2 more months of time on you and the person above them was fired last week. Another consequence of working in this company is finding yourself in a situation where you are forced to do things that are absolutely outside your job description. For example, having employees work on a weekend to move office furniture without additional comepnsation or incentives, proper oversight and safety equipment. It's not all bad though. When you do eventually get fired just give it a day or two until he calls you back. Sometimes with less pay. He is a very irrational person who seems to enjoy playing with peoples lives. It's unfortunate to see that in Bouchard Transportation we can still witness the shady and unethical business practices that were common in the early 20th century. We don't even get paid on time either. Sometimes you get paid on a Friday, and sometimes on a Monday. I'm surprised this company even offered sick days when I opened the Employee Handbook. Just use those sparingly and hope you don't get anything worse than a common cold. When you receive your handbook just throw it in the trash because the only absolute truth I read in that handbook is the name of the Company.

Pros

Competitive salaries, Corporate HQ close to LIE.

Cons

Morton Bouchard the human being is a sadistic individual. The stories one reads and hears about Mr. Bouchard (And that's how employees must address him: "Mr. Bouchard") are true, no matter how often the company tries to refute these tales in their bogus posts on Glassdoor. I've worked for privately owned companies in the past and have found that their owners often have the mentality of feudal lords, but Morty-Boy takes this to the extreme. In my brief time with Bouchard I was privately warned to be very careful about what I wrote in emails because Morty sometimes reads them. I was told not to look into his office when walking by. (Of course: the peasants don't dare look the king in the eye.) And, naturally, there were numerous stories about people being fired without warning or just cause. (Nothing to be done about that as New York is an at-will state.) Several Long Island recruiters told me that they stopped working with Bouchard because Morty was just too difficult to deal with. One, however, did concede that Morty was often more amiable after lunch.
