Pros
The work was interesting and engaging. Many opportunities to meet with high-level stakeholders across a range of US and UK government agencies and learn about various issue areas.
Cons
Manager treated staff and other managers poorly and used his status to circumvent HR. Embassy had multiple reports in from staff across a range of teams and years, and the Embassy did little to nothing as far as repercussions. Salary raises were an issue while I was there, Embassy ignored my line manager's request for pay raise and title change for me. There was no regular salary increase and seemed to occur randomly (after 5 years or so but not necessarily). If you are local staff, your taxes cannot be automatically taken out of your paycheck and also is not automatically calculated for you, it is a hassle to deal with.
