A demoralising culture - Marketing British Heart Foundation Employee Review

Pros

Generous annual leave An inspiring cause, the research being funded is genuinely groundbreaking and life saving.

Cons

A change in leadership and restructures have damaged the culture at the BHF. Too much time and a disturbing amount of money is spent farming out work to agencies. In-house talent is under-valued. Some senior leaders have a habit of hiring old colleagues from companies they used to work for. There is a sense that winning advertising awards is more important than cause and some senior leaders appear more concerned about their own career trajectory than anything else. A huge amount of time is also wasted on unproductive and inefficient meetings - having to sit through dozens of jargon-filled slides that serve more to justify a team's activities than educate or inspire. And depending on what team you're in, you may have a very poor maternity leave experience, being cut out of important team discussions, not being offered keeping in touch days and not receiving responses to requests for flexible or part time working. Morale in MFE was very low.
