Pros

Butler/Till is a strong place to work overall, especially if you value a collaborative culture and being surrounded by smart, supportive people. Anyone who’s worked at a truly toxic job before understands how good it is to work here. The company does a good job fostering a team-first environment where employees feel respected and where leadership genuinely seems to care about people. Other pros- ESOP , immediate 401 k match w/o vesting. Great coworkers, fun “perks” like food and swag. Career growth opportunities and the ability to learn new skills and cross train.

Cons

the company is in a period of rapid growth. While that creates exciting opportunities, it can also lead to some growing pains. Better to work at a company that is expanding than contracting though. That said, the growing pains can make it hard to have a work life balance; which is something the company has historically championed. Processes and structures are still evolving, which can sometimes make things feel a bit unclear or fast-moving. For employees who are comfortable with change and adaptability, it can be energizing—but for others it may feel challenging at times as the organization continues to scale.

Pros

Great coworkers. B-Corp. Employee owned. Good clients. Nice office. Good insurance and 401k match. Kind and approachable CEO.

Cons

Poor compensation compared to similar companies in same industry. Low bonuses. Understaffed. Overprocessed. Significant fear of making mistakes because of "flawless execution" leadership mentality. Senior leadership is out of touch about the actual work and needs of employees. Burnout is common and morale is quite low - especially among front-line workers. Annual engagement survey feedback is often glossed over and no real change is made. Feedback doesn't seem to go anywhere and the response from HR is always "talk to your manager" but managers and directors can't make change happen when it starts at the top of the org. Cross-functional teams often clash when we should all have the same goals.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback and for the more than five years you have invested at Butler/Till. We value the perspective of long-tenured employee-owners and appreciate you calling out both strengths and challenges. We hear and take seriously the concerns you raised around compensation, resourcing, leadership connection, and how feedback is acted on. We are in a period of significant growth and transformation as an agency, and while that brings opportunity, it can also create strain if we are not evolving quickly enough in how we support our teams. Your perspective reinforces areas we know require continued focus. Over the past year, we have been working to strengthen how we listen and respond to employee feedback, including more structured follow-through on engagement survey insights and clearer accountability at senior levels. We are also continuing to invest in compensation benchmarking, role clarity, and team resourcing to better align with market expectations and reduce pressure on our teams. Creating an environment where people feel supported, heard, and empowered to do their best work is core to who we are. We are committed to continuous improvement as we grow, and feedback like yours helps us prioritize where we need to do better. Thank you again for sharing your experience.
