Pros

A lot of energy, time, and money has been put into the development of a new, trustworthy pathogen detection unit, which is about to launch. The unit's capabilities will expand into other areas within a few months, which will make the unit even more attractive to food producers. A new sales team has been hired recently. They appear very energetic and personable, and I think they will be great additions to the team. They bring years of experience in the areas where we needed help. The company has recently added benefits that did not exist before, like 401(k), or increased benefits, like the number of days we can work from home. Employees are able to share in the success of the company as we were paid bonuses after a very profitable year last year (and they were not limited to the sales staff.) Admin is working on trying to increase the number of company-sponsored outings and encourages all employees to participate. It is easy to interact with others in the company. Location is nice, with restaurants and a Mariano's grocery store very close by.

Cons

New product launches can be very stressful. Location is across the street from a Metra station, which is great if you use it for your commute, but it gets noisy sometimes during the day.

CERTUS Food Safety Response

Thank you for your input and efforts to contribute to our company. We are sorry that you did not have a great experience and take all feedback seriously. You have brought up a few areas where we can do better and have implemented some solid changes recently. Out of respect to our other employees and future employees, I want to address some of the things you mentioned here. As a matter of fact, we do have a functioning HR department and we are always looking for ways to make this a great place to work. This year we implemented a 401(K) Plan with a company contribution for all employees regardless of personal contributions. In the summer of 2018, our HR Department also created a parental leave policy, when one of our employees had a child. I am also happy to share that CERTUS has home office days every month, as well as a generous PTO policy which provides all employees with both paid sick and vacation leave, should they have a doctor’s visit during the week. We also take special days off such as company founders’ day, Employee Appreciation Day and extended Christmas and New Year holidays. Annual incentive and bonus consideration are additional benefits to working at CERTUS. Like all growing companies, our culture is always evolving, and we take pride in the team we are building. While wearing headphones in the office is accepted, we ask all employees to be alert to others trying to get their attention and to answer the phone. I can assure you that the company does not ‘heavily’ monitor emails, phone conversations, and internet usage. We do however ask that all employees use company equipment for business only. I think this is a standard for most organizations. Operationally, CERTUS is doing our part to make the world a safer place to eat and this can only be done with a cohesive team of professionals who care about our mission, our customers and each other.
