Pros

I started working at City Furniture as a MIT ( management in training) about five years ago. I was promoted quickly into the position but have remained in the same position in the last three years. Although I do my best to get promoted, City Furniture only promotes those who are 20 % in sales. Unfortunately not all top performers can be managers but City Furniture always fails to see that. There isn't much growth in this company. In order for one to be a General Manager, someone has to die, quit, or get fired. And that doesn't happen often. I've reached the glass ceiling here and that will happen to anyone who is in the management program. While at City Furniture, though, I did make a lot of money. That is the best PRO of working here.

Cons

The growth in management is minimized unless you're friends with upper management. You will lose all your nights and weekends.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Your feedback is important to us. We want our promotion process to be as transparent as possible and remove perceived favoritism. As a result, we use an approach that evaluates our managers on sales performance AND soft skills. This ensure that our leaders not only have proven performance, but also have the competencies necessary to lead/coach a team. I'd like to explain how promotions are determined.... All of our current General Managers, Regional Managers and VPs get together in a room to discuss each candidate one-by-one to determine who will be promoted. In the time that you've worked for us (the last 5 years), eleven of our current General Managers were promoted into their position with this process. We feel that this process is fair and takes in to account a lot more than just sales performance as soft skills are discussed at length. As we continue to grow as an organization and open additional showrooms, there will be several General Manager positions that become available over the next few years. Stay focused on personal/professional development and your sales performance and I'm confident that you'll have the opportunity to get promoted!

Pros

2020 and maybe 21,22 were good after it all went down hill (thanks to AH )

Cons

Everyone is related , friends , family etc. HR is all friends with eveyone there for you cannot be taken serious . So many talented associates leave because they are forced out due to personal preference. Turn over company wide they say is low. However the location I worked in 80 precent of people were 6 month or under ! Yikes !!! Management does not know how to keep and lead their team , instead they micro manage , make up new rules that they do not follow after a few weeks and they always seem stressed. Oh and bonus program is constantly restructured . They present it as new opportunities however it’s really for them to pay less. This company always pays very low percentage and you have to jump through hoops that are on fire to make a bonus. And I wasn’t some employee who worked 6 months and quit. I was someone making 90k yearly for several years. This is just a reality. Higher management needs traning asap. And insurance gets worse every year !
